Curriculum and lesson plans

How the pieces fit together:

  • A curriculum belongs to your facility. Adopt a template or build your own.
  • A curriculum holds themes, and each theme is a week, with an age group.
  • A theme holds activities, on Monday to Friday, each with times, a developmental domain and optional steps.
  • A curriculum is assigned to a classroom.
  • A lesson plan belongs to a classroom and a date, and can draw on the assigned curriculum’s theme.

Curriculum in the sidebar shows the templates available and the curricula you already have.

  1. Preview a template to read its philosophy and see its weeks.
  2. Adopt it, set the Curriculum Name and optionally a Start Date and Age Group, then Adopt Curriculum.

Leaving Age Group blank adopts it for all available age groups.

Create Custom asks for a Curriculum Name, and optionally a philosophy, a description and a start date. Create Curriculum opens the new curriculum for you to add themes to.

Open a curriculum and select Add Theme: Theme Name, Description, Week Number and Age Group. Timeline and Calendar switch how the weeks are displayed.

You can delete a theme you added yourself — template themes have no delete control. Deleting is immediate, with no confirmation.

Assign to Classroom on the curriculum, then pick the room. Until you do this, the curriculum has no effect on any lesson plan and parents see nothing in their app.

Lesson plans are created from the classroom, not from here: Classrooms → the room → Calendar → Create Lesson Plan.

  • Title and Date are required. The date cannot be changed afterwards.
  • Curriculum Theme links the plan to a week of the assigned curriculum.
  • Add Activity adds an activity with a name, start and end time, domain, description and materials.
  • Generate Activities from Theme, on a saved plan with a theme selected, fills the activities in for you.
  • Save Draft keeps it to yourself; Save & Publish makes it the plan staff and parents see.

A draft is invisible to staff on their phones and to families. Publish it the day before, not during the morning it applies to.

Expand a week, then use the pencil on an activity to change its Name, Description and Materials in place. Save applies the change and confirms with Activity updated; Cancel puts the fields back as they were.
