Licensing & compliance

Licensed capacity

Licensed capacity is the total number of children a facility is authorised to have on site at one time, stated on its license. It is determined by usable square footage, the number and size of classrooms, exits, and bathroom facilities.

Exceeding licensed capacity is a violation even if every individual classroom is within ratio and group size.

Capacity is often broken down by age band, so a center licensed for 60 children may only be licensed for 8 infants within that total.

How Childcarious handles this

Organize classrooms, assign staff, set capacities, and track age groups with real-time occupancy.
