A late pickup fee is a charge applied when a family collects their child after the center’s closing time, usually per minute or per fifteen-minute block. Its purpose is deterrence, since staff must remain on site and on the clock.
The fee must be stated in the enrollment agreement to be enforceable in practice.
Applying it consistently requires an accurate check-out timestamp — the fee is difficult to defend from a handwritten sign-out sheet.
