A family child care home is a childcare program operated out of the provider’s own residence, licensed under a separate and generally lighter regulatory framework than a center. Capacity is small, often under twelve children, and one provider frequently fills every role.
Many states distinguish a small home from a large or group home, with the larger tier requiring an assistant and closer to center-level rules.
Because the operator is also the administrator, teacher, and bookkeeper, administrative time has a direct cost in supervision time.
