Background check clearance is the approval a childcare worker receives after state and federal criminal history, child abuse registry, and sometimes fingerprint checks are completed. Staff generally may not have unsupervised contact with children before clearance is granted.
Clearances expire and must be renewed, commonly every five years, and a lapsed clearance is treated as no clearance.
Clearance is usually not transferable between employers, so a new hire with a current clearance elsewhere may still need one for your facility.
